There is None Else, Part 4

Isaiah 46:9-10

Remember the former things of old:
for I am God, and there is none else;
I am God, and there is none like me,
Declaring the end from the beginning,
and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand,
and I will do all my pleasure:

I love stone walls. Not just any kind but the New England kind, showing up seemingly randomly in the woods. They are a testament to somebody’s diligence and hard work in the past. They are a witness to their presence and life. Stone walls help me to remember that my life will be here one moment and gone the next. The fields I will plow and the walls I build may eventually be mature forests and I will be part of the long procession of the forgotten.

My God, however, will not be forgotten. He is not left in the silent past. He was there, he is here, and he will be actively directing the future. We look to the acts of God in history to strengthen our faith in the present and hope for the future. We can be encouraged that all of the promises he has made to us will be kept.

When we see those old stone walls, we can praise the Lord for his faithfulness to all generations, but even more so, when we read of Moses, Rahab, Hannah, David, and Paul, we know that the same God is our Lord.

Lord help us to be full of faith.
