A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
Proverbs 1:5
I plan to spend this month in the book of Proverbs on the blog. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to write about the goodness of God in the wisdom of God. I’m also thankful for voice dictation on cell phones. Yesterday I managed to cut my finger open enough to require 12 stitches, typing is not very practical right now.
The goal was simple enough, to move a piece of equipment from point A to point B using a bit of leverage to get the equipment moving. The piece of equipment was an old farm plow, identical to the one pictured above. In the process of using leverage (and pulling the plow with a dump truck) my right ring finger was caught between the lever and the piece of equipment. And for some reason, my flesh did not hold up against the iron. Looking back, I can see some things I could’ve done differently.
That is how we are to be in spiritual matters too. Wisdom isn’t so much about keeping yourself from losing a finger. God‘s wisdom provides us opportunity grow righteously, and Christ Jesus is the wisdom of God revealed in human flesh. When we abide in Christ, we walk in wisdom. When we bear in our lives the fruit of the Spirit, we reveal Christ and His glorious wisdom for the benefit of others.
I have a very good friend who says, “if you’re gonna be dumb, you’d better be tough.“ It’s true when it comes to moving heavy plows. Let’s not miss the lessons we learn, and may the Lord help us to have soft hearts that will increase in wisdom.
